Hernia repair

Hernia repair is a surgical procedure to correct a hernia, which occurs when an internal organ or tissue pushes through a weak area in the abdominal wall or other muscles. Symptoms often include a visible bulge, pain or discomfort, especially with activity, and sometimes nausea or vomiting. Diagnosis typically involves a physical examination and possibly imaging tests like ultrasound or CT scans. Treatment usually requires surgery to reposition the protruding tissue and strengthen the weakened area, often using stitches or a mesh. Surgery can be performed open or with laparoscopic or robotic surgery. Recovery involves following specific guidelines to ensure proper healing and avoid complications.

Types of hernias include:
  • Groin hernias: Inguinal, Femoral
  • Incisional and ventral hernias
  • Parastomal hernias
  • Spigelian hernias
